In Manitoba you pay each year for your driver’s insurance. If you cause an accident, the cost may go up. You must also change the address on your license within 15 days of a name or address change. The driver’s license has 2 parts, seen at left. An international driver’s license is valid for 3 months after your arrival in Manitoba. You must have a new license before those 3 months are over. If a test is needed you can take the first part in another language, however the driving test can only be taken in English.
In Canada, a card with a picture is called “picture ID.” The cards may be needed to open a bank account, apply for a credit card, cash cheques, start a job and any other time when someone asks for identification. The Immigration Card and Driver’s License are picture IDs.
