Patterson Lake

Probably the best place in Manitoba to catch a trophy brown trout is a small lake located 6.5 km north of Oakburn on Provincial road #577.” Don Lamont Patterson Lake, is tucked down in a valley, surrounded by poplar, aspen and willows, making it a great destination for the float tuber, even when the wind is blowing. While both rainbow and brown trout exist in abundance, the brown trout have probably provided the most trophy action for the majority of anglers who have visited the lake over the last three years.  This fall should provide the best opportunity to catch a Manitoba record brown, one in the twenty-nine inch range.  The rainbows in the lake are probably over thirty inches!

Email received at the R.M. of Rossburn on June 23, 2010:

"Good afternoon, I just wanted to send you a message to thank and congratulate you on the wonderful stillwater fly fishing you have in the Parklands region.

Recently, I accompanied 12 other anglers as we spent four days in the region based out of Arrow Lakes Lodge.  During our stay we spent time on both Tokaryk and Patterson Lakes and were rewarded with some of the largest fish of the trip.  Tokaryk in particular was spectacular.  I have attached a couple of images for you.  In addition, I placed a summary of our adventure on my personal blog you can view through my website, www.flycraftangling.com.  The direct link to my blog is http://flycraftanglingadventures.blogspot.com/.

I have the good fortune to travel throughout North America providing seminars, speaking, outdoor writing and through my duties as one of the co-hosts of the New Fly Fisher TV show.  I have been to the Parklands a number of times previously, both to film and for personal trips.  This trip was the best by far.  Based upon my experiences and travels I can honestly say you have the best stillwater fly fishing in North America.

Thank you for your region’s hospitality and for supporting unique fisheries such as those on Tokaryk and Patterson Lakes.  Your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated and becoming increasingly well known by more and more anglers.

We will be back, hopefully this fall and again in 2011.

Best regards,

Phil Rowley
