Anglers will be interested to know that provincial records for brook trout, brown trout, rainbow trout and carp were all caught in the Parkland region. Our waters can also yield a good catch of smallmouth bass, splake, northern pike, perch and muskellunge, and some of the best walleye fishing in the world.
Please consult a provincial “Angler’s Guide” for up to date regulations particular to each lake. The following information was based on 2007 Angler’s Guide (get the latest fishing guide)
Arrow Lake – walleye limit is 4, all walleye shorter than 35 cm must be released.
Rossman Lake – Walleye limit is 4; all walleye shorter than 35 cm must be released.
Tokaryk Lake - This lake has earned a reputation as one of the best in Canada for fly-fishing. Expect to land brown trout, and some big rainbows.
Patterson Lake - This lake is the rising star as a sport fishery for brown and rainbow trout. Trout limit is one and all trout over 45 cm must be released, no natural bait.
A particularly harsh winter back in 1989-1990 is in some ways responsible for a thriving flyfishing movement in the area. That year, many of the area’s lakes experienced winter kill, making the stocking of the affected lakes necessary. Local fish and game groups introduced salmonoid species to these lakes, most notable rainbow and brown trout. To the surprise of many, and to the delight of anglers everywhere, the experiment was a resounding success.
The fishing experience you can have in Rossburn is one of the best ever. The beautiful scenery, sizable trout and peaceful, relaxing and isolated lakes all provide you with the sense that you are fishing in paradise.
