One of the most popular church designs used by both Ukrainian Orthodox and Ukrainian Catholic congregations throughout Manitoba saw the embellishment of a simple gabled nave section with the addition of imposing corner towers and a raised dome in the centre of the roof.  The towers, like the central dome, were always crowned with the traditional Ukrainian onion-shaped domes called banyas.  The banyas of each church often were of a unique design giving each church its own individuality.  The Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption of St. Mary, built in the 1920s, is a fine example of that tradition.
